Speak Out Resource Book & Notes

Learning Materials, Key Stage 3+
The ‘Speak Out’ educational resource uses the archive of activists Eric and Jessica Huntley to engage students. It explores the power associated with speaking out and the importance of making one’s voice heard through collective grassroots action. The resource provides a solid framework for addressing relevant questions in relation to civic engagement, understanding different communities and exploring Britain’s place in global history.
The learning materials and background notes were created as a resource for use in sessions guided by educators and as such are relevant across a number of areas covered by the school curriculum. Each section contains; an extract from the Huntley Archives, supporting information and questions directed at the student. The questions can also be downloaded in Microsoft Word so that educators can make changes as necessary to meet the needs of their students.
We will be continually updating this section and would welcome users sending in their lesson plans, and additional activities relating to the use of ‘Speak Out’ so that it can be shared with others.
Speak Out Background notes
The background notes were created to provide educators with context and additional information as they prepare to use the archival items in the learning pack. They help to place the topics covered into the relevant historical context.Download
